Spring Cleanup Inside and Outside

At Momentum Building Services, we provide a healthier environment for your customers and employees. This month, help your community keep our Earth pristine for future generations with a cleanup project! While we work on cleaning the inside of your building, you and your team can volunteer to clean up outdoor community areas. Check out this list of opportunities to help out this month.

A Cleaner, Safer, and Healthier City

In Baton Rouge, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and the city council members host a cleanup project every Saturday in April. The goal is to make the city cleaner, safer, and healthier.

Plus, April 22nd is Earth Day, an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Earth Day inspires millions of Americans to get outside and clean up their streets, parks, and coastlines every year.

If your staff is interested in helping out, have them check out events sponsored by the Safe Hopeful Healthy Neighborhood organization in Baton Rouge. They work with leaders like you to be a part of a network working to change Baton Rouge for the better.

Water Quality of the Mississippi

The mighty Mississippi has historically been a way to transport goods and people. With so many people traveling along the river, unfortunately there was a lot of trash left behind. One of the leading causes of water pollution is people not properly disposing of their sewage and other debris.

These days, the Clean Water Act protects the river from toxic and harsh chemicals. According to the LSU College of the Coast and Environment Professor R. Eugene Turner, “Constant vigilance and monitoring are necessary to ensure water quality in the Mississippi River and the northern Gulf of Mexico.” For example, 40% of plastic waste in the Gulf of Mexico comes down from the Mississippi River. So keeping the river clean can help protect the world!

You can help by assembling a team of volunteers from your staff to clean up litter near the Mississippi River or in other green areas around their community. With a group of volunteers or solo, you can help prevent the trash from getting into the river and ocean using a Debris Tracker App that allows you to track litter on your phone. Use this guide to get you started and be a part of the solution by helping collect data on litter tracking.

Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Spring is the best time to think about cleaning in the areas you don’t usually get to throughout the year. Items like batteries, electronics, motor oil, and cleaning chemicals cannot get disposed of in the trash—plan to dispose of hazardous waste properly this month. Ensure your staff knows about the Hazardous Materials Collection Day in Baton Rouge for household waste.

On Saturday, April 17th, 2022, from 9 am to 1 pm, the Parish of East Baton Rouge Environmental Services will be assisting the public with removing their hazardous waste and recyclables. Located at the LSU Touchdown Village Lot, volunteers will help unload your trash from your vehicle.

Check out the list of accepted materials and share it with your staff to show initiative for cleaner communities. There may be items you never thought of disposing of before that can help clear clutter from your home.

A Change in Mindset

No one wants to see litter on the side of a bike path or on a walk down the street. So last April, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome started an initiative to change the mindset of Baton Rouge citizens not to allow litter to be a part of their life. Too often, someone throws litter in public, and nothing gets done about it.

The Mayor-President called out to the citizens to stand up for a clean community, “Why don’t we hold folks accountable for when we see them littering, when we notice people throwing stuff on the ground, there’s some personal responsibility that’s involved in this.”

To create economic growth, the Mayor says it is essential to take pride in keeping the city clean and keep up a quality of life in the community. In addition, it is necessary to keep our outside areas clean for the health of people and animals and grow the wealth and success of the city.

Cleaner Earth for Better Business

Your business would benefit from a cleaner environment inside and outside. Every day, people track in dirt and leave behind their waste at their place of work. If you schedule a team like our janitorial staff to come and clean your workplace, it will be less to worry about, and you can focus more on making your community beautiful and keep business booming.

If you are thinking about spring cleaning, think of our janitorial teams at Momentum Building Services because we are working towards creating cleaner and healthier environments. We specialize in cleaning schools, factories, office buildings, and manufacturing plants.

Especially this time of year, we work hard to make sure carpets, rugs, and upholstery are cleaned of oil and dirt for a fresh start to the spring season. Also, we specialize in stripping, sealing, waxing, and buffing hard surface floors. So make a good impression on customers with a shiny, clean floor and call us today!
