Labor Day Weekend Events in Louisiana

Make the most of the end of the summer with these fun events for you and your family! Summer is about making memories and spending quality time with the people you care about most.

So when you’re off work and enjoying a long weekend, don’t just sit around and do what you usually do, like running errands, cooking for your family, or cleaning the house. Instead, leave the worries and work behind, get out of the house, and enjoy all Baton Rouge has to offer before going back to school and starting another busy school year.

Here we list some fun family events on Labor Day weekend in Louisiana. Share these fun ideas with your staff, and make sure you get out on the town, too.

Family Fun at the Zoo

There’s so much to do at the Blue Zoo! The interactive aquarium in the Mall of Louisiana Baton Rouge has fun entertainment and is an educational experience. All these shows are included in the Day Pass and are free to enjoy while at the zoo.

The Pirate Show

Remember what it was like to play pirates? The Pirate Show at the zoo will bring out your imagination and entertain your family! Hunt for treasure, fight with swords and treasure the memory with a photo op with the pirates. The Pirate Show will perform all weekend. Catch a showing at 4:45 pm on Friday, 3:35 pm on Saturday, or 1 pm on Sunday.

Shark Feeding

If you’ve ever binge-watched Shark Week, you will want to see Animal Feeding at the Blue Zoo! You’ll learn what the animals eat and why, how they stay healthy, and have the opportunity to ask questions of the experts. These ancient animals will enchant your whole family by seeing these mysterious animals up close and learning all about their habits. Catch the Shark Feeding on Saturday at 2 pm.

Mermaid Meet and Greet

Take the family to a Meet and Greet with Mermaids for some lighthearted fun! Bring your little mermaid to experience a magical show and story time. You’ll see the mermaids swim and have a photo op in a giant shell. Then, go under the sea on Saturday at 5 pm and Sunday at 1 pm. Also, there will be a mermaid story time on Saturday at 12 pm.

Family Hour at the Planetarium

The planetarium is a great way to spend the day exploring our planet and space and learning about the history of Louisiana. All of the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium shows are included with general admission tickets.

Constellations and Stargazing

There’s nothing more relaxing than gazing at the stars. During the interactive presentation at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, learn about the constellations in the Baton Rouge nighttime sky. Then, sit back and enjoy the domed theater as you travel through the Milky Way. The presentation will start promptly on Saturday at 10 am.

Storytime on Saturn

For an even more relaxing time, head to the giant screen to see In Saturn’s Rings. LeVar Burton’s voice will soothe you and entertain you as you learn about the life of the universe and the amazing rings of Saturn. This uniquely animated film features rare, authentic images from missions to Saturn and the Hubble Telescope. You won’t miss this educational opportunity on Sunday at 4 pm.

Take A Tour With Friends

Have adult fun at night with a historical tour, or get together with a group for beer and biking! No matter what age you are, learning about where you live will pique your curiosity.

Haunted Adventure

The Baton Rouge Haunted Adventure Tour is a 3-hour tour by microbus (or minivan) to infamous locations that are linked to real-life murder stories and local legends. You’ll also walk a bit on a self-guided exploration and maybe even capture a paranormal event on camera. Sign up for the Saturday or Sunday tour at 7 pm.

Pedal Pub Bike Tour

The great thing about the pedal pub is you can take a tour with your co-workers, family, or friends! There’s lots of variety for the Pedal Pub Party Bike Tour, and Pedal Pub Pilots will guide you to the best breweries, bars, and restaurants in Baton Rouge. The family tour is non-alcoholic and perfect for tweens and teens to see the sights and stop for pizza. Book a time on their website for yourself, you and a date, or a large group.
